DAY 3: Awesome Animals

Activity 2: The Secretive Skink [4 points]
We have a number of small lizards (geckos and skinks) living in New Zealand. One of the least common is the Chevron Skink. According to the Department of Conservation, Chevron Skinks live mostly on two islands - Great Barrier Island and Little Barrier Island. These islands are ‘animal reserves.’ Very few people, other than staff working for the New Zealand Department of Conservation (DOC), are allowed to live there. The DOC staff are called ‘Rangers.’ Their job is to protect the wildlife (animals and plants) living on the island.
Would you like to be a DOC ranger and live with the animals on Great Barrier Island?

On your blog list three pros (good things) and three cons (bad things) about working as a DOC ranger. At the bottom of your post, tell us whether you would like to be a DOC Ranger or not.
1 reason : My reason why I don't want to be a Doc ranger.Cause I could get eating by a loin. And other species too unless if it's a harmless bird and cats too.

2 reason: My other reason why I don't want to be a Doc ranger. Is that when I'm going to study about tigers. It might look at me then chase me and I might be the tigers meal.

3 reason: My last reason is that if I go to sleep the predator might smell me and rip open my tent.I take to there babies then kill me.That's why I don't want to be a Doc ranger.

1 reason : The reason why I want to be a doc ranger so I can study about the animals species .So I can find there special inside and outside about them.

2 reason : and my other reason why I will like to be a Doc ranger is that if the lions let me near there babies.I could study about them and learn lots of things.

3 reason: Lucky last reason I like to be a Doc ranger to learn and to make sure that the babies and the mothers are safe but have to beware of the father.

TASK DESCRIPTION: For my task for SLJ is that I have to write 3 reason why I want to be a Doc Ranger or not.Leave a comment.

Kia ora Hazel,

I can see from this post that you have thought a lot about what it would be like to be a DOC ranger. There certainly are some risks associated with the job but the great thing about being a DOC ranger in New Zealand is that we don't have lions or tigers here so you wouldn't have to worry about your safety. In fact, most of the animals in NZ are pretty small and not very aggressive so you would probably find that the job was actually quite safe. You might also find that you learn a lot about the plants and animals that can be found in our native environment.

One of my friends, Mel, used to be a DOC ranger and she loved it. She is quite a private person and I think that she enjoyed the peace and quiet of working in the bush. I am more of a social person so I think that I would find it hard to be on my own so much. What about you? Would you enjoy the peace and quiet of the bush?

Wishing you a peaceful and relaxing week.

Bye for now,

Rachel :)
